When you or your friends are discussing how to set up a forex brokerage platform, you may come across two popular methods for setting up the MT4 forex trading platform—MT4 white-label and MT4 master-label. What exactly do these terms mean? And what are the differences between them?If you’re hoping to become a broker, should you choose MT4 white-label or is MT4 master-label a better fit? In this article, we’ll help you address this series of questions that every broker must face.
First, let’s explain what the MT4 main label is.
The term “MT4 Master License” refers to a situation where a forex broker, in order to build a platform that is entirely its own, purchases the MT4 software directly from MetaQuotes, and then carries out a series of operations—including establishing an overseas company, applying for regulatory licenses, purchasing, leasing, and setting up an appropriate number of servers, building a website and providing various technical services, and creating clearing channels—ultimately establishing a platform that is entirely the broker’s own.
Having discussed the MT4 main brand, let’s now turn to the white-label version, which is the counterpart to the main brand. Essentially, the ultimate goal of MT4 white-label purchasers is largely the same as that of MT4 main brand operators—both aim to become forex brokers. Therefore, in terms of actual implementation, the process is essentially the same.Purchasers of an MT4 white-label solution will also have their own servers and platform, but the difference is that, unlike with an MT4 master license, they do not need to go through the hassle of assembling various specialized teams to complete the entire platform setup process.Instead, MT4 operates on an OEM-style model: it purchases MT4 services from the MT4 main-label owner, shares the main-label’s servers, and assists you in resolving various technical issues.
So, since both the MT4 main platform and the white-label version can ultimately function as forex trading platforms, what is the difference between them?
First, a white-label platform must be significantly more expensive than a white-label solution. The reason is simple: applying for server infrastructure and regulatory licenses involves a substantial financial investment, which is unavoidable for a white-label solution, whereas a white-label platform directly shares these resources with the white-label solution, and the only cost incurred is the fee for purchasing the white-label solution’s services;
Second, a white-label solution requires a much larger team than a white-label solution—which is easy to understand—especially when it comes to setting up systems like CRM and clearing bridges.Without the support of a sufficiently large technical team to handle specialized technical issues—such as server operations and maintenance—it would be impossible to keep the platform running. White-label solutions, on the other hand, are different: if a server malfunctions, the white-label provider will help fix it; if a bug appears on the platform, the white-label provider will provide the necessary technical support.
Does that mean white-label is far superior to the main brand?
Of course not. There’s a good reason why the master label is more expensive—its biggest advantage is that it offers far more permissions than the white-label version. If a broker wants greater platform control, the fewer levels of hierarchy, the better.The master account is the true owner of MT4. Since it is purchased directly from MetaQuotes, it can essentially be customized however the broker wishes. White-label accounts, on the other hand, face far more restrictions; if a white-label broker wants more permissions, they must negotiate with the white-label provider;Second, while white-label accounts enjoy the convenience of sharing the master account’s server, this means they no longer have full control over the server’s quality. Questions like whether problems will arise and when they might occur can only be answered by the master account.
Therefore, if you want to become a forex broker at a low cost and with high efficiency, don’t hesitate to choose a white-label solution; however, if you’re looking for greater autonomy and more control over the system, an MT4 master-label solution might be a better choice for you.
