With the continuous development of domestic and international forex brokers, an increasing number of forex trading platforms have emerged. However, if you have traded or conducted transactions on multiple platforms, it is not hard to notice that many of these platforms have issues of varying severity. While some of these risks can be ignored, others are too great for both the platform and its clients to bear. Many of these issues stem from problems inherent in the platform’s initial development, reflecting the fact that the development standards and operational management capabilities of current forex platform developers remain inconsistent. Brokers, too, often have questions and misconceptions regarding platform development. So, what are some of these common misconceptions?
Misconception #1: “Since it’s all about building a platform and they’ll all work in the end, I might as well just choose the cheapest provider.” This is a mistake many beginners hoping to build their own forex trading platform tend to make. As the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” Why do some forex platform providers charge exorbitant fees, while others charge only a fraction of that? Many beginners assume it’s simply because the former are overpricing their services, but that’s not actually the case.Building a forex trading platform isn’t something that can be done with just a few clicks. Although many steps—such as setting up a CRM or a MAM system—have relatively low marginal costs, there are still numerous steps that require significant financial investment. For example, there’s the issue of whether the MT4 software is legitimate. Some unscrupulous platform developers use pirated MT4 software to drive down development costs. While choosing such a developer may lower the upfront cost, critical issues—such as whether client funds are secure and whether the software will malfunction during trading—will persist. Therefore, while it’s not necessarily true that “you get what you pay for,” it’s inevitable that the cheaper the platform provider, the greater the likelihood of encountering the issues mentioned above.
Misconception #2: You hear that a certain brokerage firm excels at building forex trading platforms and offers surprisingly low setup fees, so you choose that firm as your platform provider. This is another extremely critical mistake that beginners often make. Generally, when a brokerage firm provides forex platform development services, it essentially involves purchasing the firm’s white-label solution. However, since the brokerage also operates as a forex market maker, there is a direct overlap with the business of the developed forex trading platform.Simply put, the same client can trade on the developed platform as well as directly with the brokerage firm. This leads to a serious problem: as the white-label provider, the brokerage firm is fully capable of accessing the data of clients trading on the platform and could very well poach clients who originally belonged to that platform. So why do brokerage firms offer such high-quality platform development at extremely low costs? Simply put, it’s because they want to poach more clients from the platform.
Misconception 3: Not wanting to set up the platform through a forex platform provider because, in the end, the provider will have the highest level of access to the platform. The misconception behind this statement is that not all platform providers retain the highest level of access after setup is complete. In fact, many platform providers ensure that the platforms they build are independent and self-governing; some providers only offer technical support, while others only provide hardware, and so on. Therefore, there is absolutely no need to worry that the provider could arbitrarily modify billing information.
